CONSTITUTIONAL (SENATE):
SJR0018 filed by Sen. Brian Kelsey (R-31) seeks to change the language of Article II, Section 28 and Article XI, Section 9 of the Tennessee Constitution to specifically forbid the State and local governments from levying income, payroll, estate, or inheritance taxes. Currently, the Tennessee Constitution only allows the government to levy taxes on incomes derived from stocks and bonds that are not taxed ad valorem.
SJR0020 filed by Sen. Mike Faulk (R-4) proposes amending Article VI, Section 5 of the Tennessee Constitution to provide for the popular election of the Attorney General to a 4-year term, with a 2-term limit. The Attorney General is currently appointed by the Tennessee Supreme Court for an 8-year term.
